Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
The national Botanical Gardens
at Kirstenbosch covers 528 ha of the slopes
of Table Mountain and world renowned for the beauty
and diversity of the flora displayed within its boundaries.
Only indigenous South African plants are grown in the
garden and, within an area of approximately 36 ha, about
6000 species of indigenous plants including
proteas, ericas, rare cycads and a host of others can
be admired by visitors. If you enjoy walking, make use
of the trails which will take you along
tranquil ponds and sprawling countryside.
Guides are available to take visitors
on a tour around the gardens and a visitor centre is
also available. This centre also includes an information
desk, gift shop, a book shop and a restaurant that is
extremely popular among visitors.
On Sunday evenings between December and March, musical
sunset concerts are held on the lawns, where
visitors are welcome to bring a picnic basket and enjoy
an unforgettable experience. |
