Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch Wine Country
is known as one of South Africa's finest, what with the region’s
climate and fertile soils. Combining this with careful selection of the
correct grape varieties have produced a winemaking industry that has
thrived for over 300 years. Today, Stellenbosch Wine Region is
synonymous with award winning wines. The town of Stellenbosch is the center of the region.
It is the second oldest town in South Africa amd was
established and named after Simon van Der Stel in 1679.
The town has preserved this heritage and a tour through
the Stellenbosch Village Museum offers a fascinating
glimpse into the the evolving past - from frontier village
to modern town.
The Wine Route comprises 44 cellars and offers the
visitor an ideal opportunity to sample these wines whilst
exploring this famous wine-producing region.
Most of the cellars offer cellar tours as well as
lunches in their shaded gardens or restaurants, together
with a bottle of wine of your choice.
