Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch Wine Country is known as one of South Africa's finest, what with the region’s climate and fertile soils. Combining this with careful selection of the correct grape varieties have produced a winemaking industry that has thrived for over 300 years. Today, Stellenbosch Wine Region is synonymous with award winning wines.

The town of Stellenbosch is the center of the region. It is the second oldest town in South Africa amd was established and named after Simon van Der Stel in 1679. The town has preserved this heritage and a tour through the Stellenbosch Village Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the the evolving past - from frontier village to modern town.

The Wine Route comprises 44 cellars and offers the visitor an ideal opportunity to sample these wines whilst exploring this famous wine-producing region.

Most of the cellars offer cellar tours as well as lunches in their shaded gardens or restaurants, together with a bottle of wine of your choice.
