Cape Town Castle
The Cape Town Castle, (Castle
of Good Hope) was built
sometime between 1666 - 1679, it is the oldest structure
in South Africa today, and serves as headquarters for
the Western Province Army Command.
The castle was originally built as a defensive
fort for early Dutch settlers, who arrived
in the Cape in 1652. Originally built on the beach,
Strand Street, which passes the structure is translated
as "Beach Street". Hundreds of years ago,
the area where Cape Town Station stands
was actually under the ocean - the land was slowly reclaimed
over the years.

to Saturday (open Sundays during December) except Christmas
day and New Years day. There are also daily
tours conducted at 11h00, 12h00 and 14h00.
The changing of the guard is held Monday to Friday at
12h00.

and restaurant on the premises. For more information
