Trevoyan Guest House
Selected by The Greenwood Guide to South Africa, 2nd edition
Text written by Simon Greenwood
Guests are free-range at this relaxed colonial-style
guest house. You can wander into the kitchen, stroll on the wide verandah or
have breakfast there, too, in full view of the mountain. Theres something cool
and self-contained about Trevoyan that cossets you from the noise and heat of
the surrounding city.
I particularly liked the happy-coloured morning room with its Oregon pine
floor and the bright garden suites with their own sitting rooms. All the guest
bedrooms are large with thick carpets (underfloor heating in winter), duvets and
fluffed up pillows, TVs hidden in wooden cabinets and a basket of soaps and
shampoos for the bathroom. There is a pool, of course, log fires in winter,
flowers, African music... and the whole edifice is watched over by a venerable
and highly cherished old oak tree. Finally parents are well catered for at
Trevoyan, quite rare for Cape Town. There are convertible sofa beds (in the
garden suites) for kids and even babysitting laid on, so you can actually go out
in the evening. Imagine!
