Bourgainvillea Cottage
Bougainvillea Cottage. is an early pioneer
home, one of the first built in the area. It has been added on to and taken away
from, over the years since it was built. The original part of the house, still
has the original high beamed ceilings, while the additions are tongue in groove,
reminiscent of the era.
The Blanco area where the cottage is located was established as a base for
workers in 1847, at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, by Henry Fancourt
White, the engineer overseeing the construction of the Montagu Pass which is
still in use today. The home that Henry Fancourt White built for himself is now
the famous Fancourt Country Hotel and golfing Estate, situated opposite
Bougainvillea Cottage.
