Mimosa Lodge

My flabber is gasted by what Andreas and
Yvette have achieved since they left Switzerland and moved into their two-storey
Edwardian townhouse in the middle of beautiful mountain-marooned Montagu (just
four years ago). It helps that I adore Art Deco as theres a lot of it about:
chandeliers, wardrobes, cabinets, revolving bookcases, chairs re-upholstered in
daring colours. The bedrooms do not resemble each other one bit. Some are in the
house, others in the dazzling flower garden, with its herbs and vegetables,
orchard and black marble swimming pool. Colours are used with imagination
throughout, some bold, some demure, but all give a true sense of luxury and
space.
Each suite has a CD player and all the rooms have a host of little extras: a
decanter of Muscadel, books, magazines, fresh fruit, chilled water for example.
An old shop counter has become the bar where guests congregate (and salivate)
before dinner. Andreas is a chef and uses fresh ingredients from Yvettes
lovingly tended garden (she herself has planted 200 species) and people travel
miles to sample his international variations on a South African theme. I
recommend Mimosa for a special treat. Children by arrangement.
