Herberg Roosje Van De Kaap And Logement
The Oosthuizens� Herberg is a family affair; Ilzebet runs the guesthouse and is
also head chef at their restaurant (where guests have first pick of the tables).
Nick, meanwhile, is a lawyer by day, pizza chef by night. The candle-lit
restaurant is charming and encourages intimacy - guests often end up chatting to
each other across the tables. The menu mixes South African specialities (I had
delicious bobotie) and international goodies - and pizza of course.
Bedrooms in the converted Cape Dutch stables are small and adorable, while
those in the Victorian house next door are larger (state your preference). All
have shower rooms, some romantically lit by candle only. The feeling is one of
an unpretentious country farmhouse with thick whitewashed walls, good solid
furniture collected by the Oosthuizens from local fairs and sales, curtains and
linen with country flowers, stripes or checks. And there are bunches of wild
flowers everywhere you look. Guests can also bask like reptiles in the garden or
pool on those hot Swellendam summer days. Restaurant closes over Christmas and
New Year.
