Longwood Guest House

Longwood Guest House offers distinctive accommodation on the slopes of Table Mountain. Longwood was designed by the celebrated architect Sir Herbert Baker, and is a fine example of Cape English architecture. The house was built in 1905, and features include two gables, a downstairs colonnaded veranda and an upstairs veranda, presenting views of Table Bay and Table Mountain respectively. A large garden provides for ample outdoor relaxation.

Accommodation

Accommodation comprises 4 double and 2 single bedrooms. The double bedrooms each have an adjoining lavatory, shower, bath and basin while the single rooms each have an adjoining lavatory, shower and basin. The upstairs bedrooms have views that overlook the city and the bay, while the two downstairs rooms have garden views, and a bay window and garden access respectively.

Facilities

The guest lounge and the dining room are of magnificent proportions, and provide for tea and coffee making facilities and a self-help refreshment cabinet. The dining room has a stately teak colonnade fireplace, one of seven fireplaces in the house. All interior woodwork is original and the lounge and two of the bedrooms feature high beamed yellowwood ceilings, true to the tradition of old Cape homes. Teak windows and doors, a yellowwood staircase and Oregon pine floors enhance the elegant character of the house.

Activities

Longwood Guest is a 25-minute downhill walk to the city. A ten-minute walk up the mountain slope from the house leads to secluded mountain trails. Here streams, forests and panoramic views will tempt you to a daily walk.

Longwood is centrally situated to visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront (a 10-minute drive), The Cape Point Nature Reserve, False Bay coastal resorts, and the Constantia, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek winelands.

Longwood: 5 Montrose Ave, Corner Montrose Ave/Forest Rd, Oranjezicht, Cape Town.
