Han�l and Schalk van Reenen are a young couple, and their enthusiasm for the job is palpable. They have poured great vats of time and energy into restoring their property, moving an impressive tonnage of earth to create a raised garden at the front, below a long terrace. This is a great place for watching sunsets over False Bay, or even whales in spring, and the view is conveniently framed by two large palms. A brace of Old English sheepdogs, Yuka and Kayla, complete the very friendly reception committee. Beach Road, you won�t need telling, is just next to the sea, and a hop, skip and a dive takes you across the road and into the water. If you don�t fancy the walk, however, there�s also a pool out the back.

Of the seven rooms, four are sea-facing and open onto the terrace, but the other three are just as enticing and luxurious, and look out over a large garden that climbs up the Gordon�s Bay hillside. Breakfast is either healthy (in Han�l�s case eaten after an early run on the beach - you don�t have to join her, so don�t worry) or hearty, and is served in the bright dining room or on the terrace outside.
