Altes Landhaus Country Lodge

Altes Landhaus country lodge is a stately Cape Dutch style homestead, cradled in the fertile Schoemanshoek valley of South Africa�s Little Karoo. Lovingly furnished with tasteful Victorian antiques, Altes Landhaus combines historic charm and a tranquil, African country atmosphere to offer splendid accommodation in country comfort.

The homestead�s magnificent gardens are evidence of a climate which boasts 360 sunshine days a year: an abundance of red and white rose blooms, soft lilac Jacaranda blossoms and old, shady trees frame a plush expanse of well-tended lawns.

Summer hues, fragrant scents and the dry, hot Karoo air provide an intoxicating backdrop for the clear turqouise waters of our salt-water swimming pool, tucked away in a tranquil corner of the homestead�s garden, and featuring a friendly pool bar.

Accommodation

Altes Landhaus offers a choice of four spacious suites and two charming double rooms. All rooms feature en-suite bathrooms and a range of modern conveniences, including TV, air conditioning (heating and cooling), ceiling fans, safes and telephone.

In addition, bedroom suites offer a comfortable, private sitting room, bathroom heaters, towel heaters and hair dryers.

Altes Landhaus is charmingly decorated with Victorian period pieces and beautiful antiques. On brisk autumn evenings, open fireplaces beckon in the homestead�s cosy lounge and elegant dining area.

An African atmosphere � reed ceilings and scented air from a fragrant summer garden � fills the spacious patio area, where guests are invited to breakfast or dine during the long warm summer months.

Food and dining

A generous farm or continental breakfast, enjoyed on a mild Karoo morning on the outdoor patio, begins the day�s pleasures at Altes Landhaus.

Dinner is available on request, and includes a choice of the finest local specialities: ostrich meat, fresh fish, succulent Karoo lamb, or fresh farm chicken � lovingly prepared and cooked to perfection. Vegetarian meals will be served on request.

Location

Drive north from Oudtshoorn on the R328 highway towards Cango Caves.� After 12km, turn left at Schoemanshoek signpost, pass the church on your right, then turn right, behind the church, and 1/2km further, turn left into our driveway.
