Bosavern
Selected by The Greenwood Guide to South Africa, 2nd edition
Text written by Simon Greenwood
The striking S-shaped waves of Bosaverns timbered
ceiling mimic the sea and combine with minimalist white interiors and mirrors to
strike a harmonious note with the blue ocean far below. Glass doors lead off the
open-plan sitting room and onto the balcony where you can treat yourself on
wicker chairs to a regal cliff-top view of the Robberg Peninsula and the white
beaches of Plettenberg Bay. Powerful binoculars will pick out whales and schools
of dolphins which are (can be!) plentiful in the clear water. The bedrooms
downstairs have the same sliding doors that disappear smoothly into the wall and
the sea breeze wafts in through a square gap of sky as if from a bright blue
painting.
The view from your room and private balcony is no less spectacular. Comfort
is a priority, with goose-down duvets on enormous beds, fine cotton sheets, a
welcoming bottle of Nederberg, gowns and slippers. Vivienne and Gerald are
natural hosts, who provide great breakfasts and also picnic hampers for the
beach or Robberg hikes, and mountain bikes and canoes for the madly active (a
pool caters for loungers). They will also point you in the right direction for
golf, and recommend a number of restaurants within easy walking distance.
