Anlo Guest House
Annelie and her sister Ezette will give you a big ol South African welcome,
organise your excursions for you, and cook you delicious meals. The supper I had
was as tasty as it was large: soup, bobotie, chicken, pumpkin, a ravishing
vinegar pudding, and coffee thats hand-made to their own specifications. The
guest house is an involving, upbeat place, many guests excited by their first
whale sighting, or great white shark dive. Personally I have no desire to swim
in a cage while Natures greatest killing machine salivates over my love
handles, but if thats what lights your candle. The enormous living room is the
heart of the place, with sofas aplenty, rugs, music, books and a large
wood-burning stove.
You should try to get a room with views of the sea and doors out to the stoep
where you can even whale-watch (in season) out in Walker Bay - its only 150
metres down to the harbour if you want to get closer. Bedrooms are comfortable
with many thoughtful extras: after-sun cream, proper bottles of shampoo, make-up
remover etc. The new section of the house, guarded by a most convincing talking
parrot, is a more ideal place to have meals, freeing up the old dining area as a
games room. This is a guest house getting better, not bigger.
