Fair Hill Country House
A gate in the middle of nowhere, then a sandy track which leads into the fynbos,
arriving finally at Val and Tims single-story guesthouse. I guarantee that you
will be stunned by the quality of natural silence that envelops you as you step
from your car. I think you can hear the fynbos growing! Just walk out in any
direction and encounter the eland who, Jeeves-like, only materialise when you
arent looking. We stayed here for a weekend break from Cape Town (two hours
max) and completely refilled our energy tanks. Walks are lovely down through
Fair Hills fynbos to the beach, which is hard to get to any other way and will
most likely be deserted. Those with more momentum can walk all the way to
Hermanus and, if she can, Val will pick you up there.
Or you can sunbathe by the pool, protected from the wind in the lea of a
natural cave. Big rooms are all blessed with verandahs whence to commune with
the wilderness. To top it off, the Deversons themselves couldnt be nicer and
delicious dinners are part of the (incredibly good value) package - with a
choice at every course. Fair Hill is an authentic, uplifting and special
experience. We recommend you stay for a minimum of two nights.Self-catering
cottage also available.
