South Africa Wine Country and the Cape Winelands

South-African-produced wines have always been held in high regard around the world, with the Cape wine country region being the cradle of this industry. The climate of the Cape is unique in Africa, it is a Mediterranean climate - meaning that it has warm dry summers and experiences its rainfall during the mild winter months, perfect for wine makers.

Wine making has a rich and long history in the Cape, with the first European settlers attempting to produce wine in the 1600's. In 1688 French Huguenots settled in the Cape and brought their expertise in viniculture with them. This boosted the efforts of the Dutch farmers and the region has never looked back.

With South African wine country having many fine wine estates offering wine tasting and cellar tours, you'll be spoilt for choice. Choose from our selection of wine country regions:

  • Breede River
  • Constantia
  • Durbanville
  • Franschhoek
  • Stellenbosch
