Zero 932
Zero 932 - The name represents the international dialing code to Belgium,
from where the cuisine originated. Belguim is renowned as the culinary centre
of the universe, boasting more Michelin Star restaurants per capita than any
other country worldwide.
Belgian cuisine has however taken this long to reach international popular
culture proportions.
History
Zero 932 is inspired by the founders of the famous "Belgo" chain.
It's post-modern interior was designed by one of the Belgofounders, Denis
Blais, whose credits include the "Belgo" restaurant "Schnecke" in London as well
as in New York.
The kitchen creates modern fare that flirts with Belgian tradition and taste
but embraces the sensibilities of the South African palate.
Moules are obviously a Belgian commodity and at zero932 they offer a variety
of mussel platters and pots. All platters and pots are served with frites and
mayo. "Frites" being of course Belgian for fries and part of the staple diet in
Belgium.
Menu
Zero932 is not however all about moule and frites. They offer a varied menu
that caters for all palates.
Meat dishes are main features on the menu but vegetarians are well catered
for, with three standard main course items, plus a weekly vegetarian special.
There are also vegetarian starter and soup options, and vegetarian side orders.
A word or two on the beer - zero932 boasts an impressive beer list of up
to 24 imported Belgian beers. Each beer is served in its own branded glass. It
is also the only restaurant in the country to serve Leffe, Hoegaarden and Stella
Artois on tap. From Abbey beers to Trappist beers, Pale ales to Golden ales and
an impressive variety of fruit beers, zero932 has something for
everyone.
Functions
Zero932 is an ideal venue for year-end functions, birthday celebrations, wrap
parties and large tour groups.
The restaurantcan accommodate 120 people for a full sit-down menu (plus an
additional 36 on the balcony in summer), and the upstairs bar is perfect for a
more intimate event of up to 100 people.
The bar can be hired exclusively between Sunday and Thursday for private
functions and a range of snack platters are available to suit all budgets.
So there you go. Who said that you could notgo on a trip to Belgium without
leaving Cape Town's sleepy shores?
