Au Jardin
Situated in the heart of Newlands, only 2 minutes walk from Cavendish Square
upmarket shopping complex, is the famous French Restaurant "Au Jardin". Nestling
alongside the 200-year-old Vineyard Hotel, it overlooks the 6 acres of beautiful
landscaped gardens onto the forested slopes of Newlands forest and Table
Mountain. Rated as one of the top 10 restaurants in the country, its Head chef,
Frenchman "Christophe Girault" has introduced a delightful new menu for the
season.
Christophe - born and educated in France, graduated from hotel school,
Charles Peguy in Orleans. He then worked at the Bernard Loiseau. A Three Star
Michellin restaurant in Burgundy before moving to South Africa in 1992. He
gained experience at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Victoria & Alfred, Au Jardin
and La Brasserie de Paris in Pretoria, featured in the Top 10 South African
restaurants on three occasions, before being invited back to join the Vineyard
team as Head chef of the "Au Jardin" Restaurant. Christophe's approach to fine
cuisine is to literally let the food speak for itself. Not to disguise the
individual flavours with cream and butter. This is achieved by making use of the
freshest ingredients available.
