On Broadway
The star-studded revue/cabaret/theatre bar and restaurant is Russel Shapiro's
work in progress, made possible by the success of his restaurant Cafe Manhattan
in Waterkant Street. Three years ago, Russel went with a group of friends to a
theatre/restaurant called Over the Top which was his inspiration for On
Broadway. He already had the venue: a corner spot he'd always fancied in
Somerset Road.
After spending a holiday in New York and being dazzled by the bright lights
of Broadway, he came up with the name. On Broadway opened with comedienne Irit
Noble's one-woman show Giving it Lip and has been sustained by musical
nostalgia. Three years on and it's still a constant challenge in terms of
theatre's bottom line - bums on seats - and Russel works tirelessly to keep it
busy and buzzing.
