Ken's Place

After running the very successful Jatinga Lodge in Mpumalanga for eighteen years, Ken and his wife Gayle decided to relocate to Hermanus where Ken has spent many happy family holidays in his youth. Ken's Place is situated in a quaint fisherman's cottage which was built in 1885 and is now listed with the National Monuments Council. The interior is elegant without being formal, and retains much of the original character and intimacy of the cottage.

Ken is a self-taught chef who has acquired a vast knowledge of food from his extensive travels and his years spent in the catering business for top corporate clients. Whilst not specialising in any particular cooking style, Ken certainly has a flair for sauces which is clearly evident from the menu which offers a rich game sauce, tart mustard sauce, and green Madagascar pepper mushroom sauce, to mention but a few of the delicious combinations on offer. For starters the Prawn and Sherry Bisque is highly recommended, but equally delicious is the Mussel Pot with creamy white wine, garlic and parsley sauce, or the Chicken Liver in Red Wine Sauce, so the choice becomes a difficult one with so much to tempt the palate.
