De Volkskombuis
De Volkskombuis aan de Wagenweg is situated on the oak-lined banks of the
tumbling Eerste River. It was designed by the famous British architect, Sir
Herbert Baker, designer of the Union Buildings in Pretoria. De Volkskombuis was
started by a group of Stellenbosch farmers anxious to preserve the culinary arts
and traditions of old Cape cooking. De Volkskombuis opened on February 1977, and
only four months later was chosen as South Africas Restaurant of the year.
At De Volkskombuis we make any occasion a memorable one, whether it is a
wedding reception, an office party or a meeting. In our private dining-room, Die
Voorkamer, you and your guests can enjoy traditional hospitality and the
authentic culinary art of the old Cape in a relaxed and rustic setting. Our set
menu of traditional Cape Cuisine is prepared to perfection by our experienced
chefs. Experience genuine Cape hospitality in old world style.
