Bijoux
It is hard to find a more appropriately named restaurant, and Bijoux (meaning
jewel) certainly lives up to the images which its name conjures up. Situated on
the main road in the prestigious "Wine & Food Capital" of the Cape,
Franschhoek, the former double-storey house has been carefully renovated to
present an inviting gracious facade. The interior of the restaurant is warm and
welcoming and tastefully decorated in earthy tones, complimented by terracotta
tiles and an attractive wooden ceiling. The overall effect is impressive without
being stuffy. A sheltered terrace with elegant umbrellas offers al fresco dining
overlooking a sparkling pool and glorious garden setting.
Bijoux is indeed fortunate to have secured the services of Executive Chef
Richard Carstens who has received several well deserved accolades for his
innovative culinary skills, and has acquired an enviable reputation as one of
South Africa's top 10 Chefs. His modern French cuisine has Japanese influences
inspired by experience gained at Melbourne's Le Japon restaurant where he worked
with distinguished Chef Kazu Nomoru.
