Antiques & Roses - M12 Djakarta Restaurant

Situated on the 5 hectare Sunhill estate in the Stellenbosch winelands lies a very unique establishment which is home to both Antiques & Roses and the M12 Djarkarta Restaurant. Owner Duncan Fransz operates a very successful antiques business as well as growing roses commercially, and visitors to Antiques & Roses can enjoy the spectacular beauty of the rose garden whilst dining under the shaded verandah. Open from 9.00 am a selection of breakfasts (including a traditional English breakfast) is available until 12 noon. The lunch menu offers an interesting selection of salads and light meals, and the Thai Chicken salad is highly recommended.

There is an interesting assortment of antiques on view, and the interior of the establishment consists of several inter-connecting rooms. The wine tasting and smoking section of the restaurant lie behind very impressive hand-carved teak paneled doors, which besides being a most attractive feature, also form part of the antiques display and are in fact for sale. The motto of Antiques & Roses clearly states "Everything is for sale except the staff"! Duncan organizes regular wine tastings for 30 or so people and will arrange for a specific winemaker to come and host the event. Adjacent to the wine tasting room is the cosy bar area with central fireplace where diners can enjoy a pre-dinner drink and view the excellent range of wines which are available.
