It is no secret that The Green Door Restaurant at Delaire has one of the most
spectacular views in the country. Visitors never fail to be impressed with the
awesome splendour of the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains which form a
fitting backdrop to the neatly cultivated vineyards stretching in all
directions, along the Helshoogte Pass. Dining al fresco is sheer delight at the
Green Door, and due to its popularity throughout the summer season it is
essential to book a table for lunch to avoid disappointment.
Congenial owner Uccio Marostica has devised a small but exciting menu that
offers some adventurous taste combinations. To tantalize the taste buds start
with a carpaccio of smoked eel and artichoke with mixed seafood and pickled
ginger. For those who enjoy game, the fillet of ostrich with port, prunes and
ginger sauce is an excellent choice and currently one of the most popular items
on the menu. Equally impressive is the corned ox tongue and quail eggs, with
baby potatoes, onions and peas marinated in a creamy tuna fish sauce.
